The running order

What is in every issue

The same shape every Friday, so you learn where to look. It opens with the one thing worth planning around and closes with the longer reads.

  1. This Weekend

The marquee section. One suggestion picked as the thing to plan around, then everything else worth showing up for.

    For example

Fireworks over Parque O’Higgins this Friday

  2. Food & Drink

New openings, seasonal menus and the places we would send a friend to, by comuna.

    For example

Where to eat in Barrio Italia this week

  3. Free This Week

Everything on that costs nothing, gathered in one place. Concerts, museum days, open studios.

    For example

A free jazz night in Ñuñoa

  4. Get Outside

Trails, parks, cerros and the day trips within reach of the city when the weather turns.

    For example

Cerro San Cristóbal’s new trail opens Saturday

  5. Local Story of the Week

One or two pieces of Santiago news worth your attention, credited and linked to the source.

    For example

What the new Line 7 stations change for Ñuñoa

  6. Openings & Closures

Short notes on what has just opened, what is closing and what has changed its hours.

    For example

Three openings in Providencia, one closure in Lastarria

  7. From The Santiago Guide

The guides we published that week, for when you want the longer read.

    For example

    Best rooftop bars in Santiago

Built from what is on in Santiago this week.
  • One suggestion, not twenty links

Each issue is built around a single thing worth planning the week around. Everything under it earned its place.

  • When, where, what it costs

Every item carries its date, the comuna or venue, and the price. Free is always said out loud.

  • Sources are credited

Anything drawn from a venue, a municipality or a local outlet links straight back to it. Nothing is republished wholesale.

  • Links you can act on

Recommendations point at a listing we maintain, with the address, the hours and a map already on it.

Where it comes from

Written here, from a directory we keep

Most travel mailing lists are assembled from whatever the internet turned up that week. This one is drawn from the same directory that runs this site: places we have listed, checked and kept current, across every comuna in Santiago.

Events are collected each week from Santiago venues, municipalities and cultural centres. Anything that came from somewhere else says so and links back to it. That rule is built into how the issue is assembled, so an item without a credited source does not go out.

  • 1700+Places in the directory
  • 100+Events tracked
  • WeeklyLocal guides written
  • 34Comunas covered

Frequently Asked Questions

Once a week, on Friday morning Santiago time. One email, timed so you can still plan the weekend around it. There are no daily sends, no breaking-news alerts and no separate promotional list you get added to by signing up here.

Yes, and it stays free. The Santiago Guide is free to read and free to be listed in, and the newsletter works the same way. If we ever run a paid placement inside an issue it will be labelled as one, in the issue, where you can see it.

It is written for both. Every item carries the date, the comuna and the price, so a visitor can scan one issue and build a weekend out of it without knowing the city. Residents tend to read it for the openings, the free events and the things happening outside their own neighbourhood.

The writing is in English. Venue names, event titles and comunas stay in Spanish exactly as they appear, so you can search them, say them to a taxi driver or paste them into a map without translating anything back.

From the directory behind this site, which we maintain ourselves, plus events collected each week from Santiago venues, municipalities and cultural centres. Anything drawn from an outside source is credited with a link to it in the issue. Nothing is republished wholesale.

It is stored to send you the newsletter and nothing else. We do not sell it, rent it or pass it to the businesses listed on the site, and we do not use it to email you about anything other than this newsletter.

Every issue carries a one-click unsubscribe link in the footer, and most email apps also show an unsubscribe button at the top of the message. One click removes you. There is no confirmation step and no form asking you to explain why.
