The Santiago GuideWhere to Stay in Farellones
Hotels, apartments and hostels across Farellones, in Mountains.
Where Should You Stay in Farellones?
Farellones is the classic mountain village above Santiago, the historic base camp for the nearby ski centers and a year-round destination in its own right. In winter it is a hub for skiers, and in summer it offers hiking, zip lines, and long views back down over the city. Below are the hotels, apartments and hostels we recommend in Farellones.
Frequently Asked Questions
We currently list 15 places to stay in Farellones. Lodges and cabins out in Mountains are priced by season rather than by star rating, and rates climb steeply at peak times. Many include meals, because there is often nowhere else to eat nearby, so compare the full package rather than the room rate alone.
No. Foreign visitors paying in US dollars or with a foreign card are exempt from the 19 percent IVA on accommodation anywhere in Chile, including Farellones. Show your passport and the tourist card you were given on arrival at check-in, and ask for the exempt rate directly, because quoted prices sometimes include the tax.
Not in the way a city neighbourhood is. There is no Metro out here, and reaching Farellones means a drive, a booked transfer or a tour, typically forty five minutes to two hours from central Santiago. Staying out here makes sense when the mountains or the vineyards are the point of the trip rather than the city.
As far ahead as you can for ski season between June and September, when the mountain lodges fill months in advance, and for the March and April grape harvest in the wine valleys. Midweek is quieter and cheaper than weekends almost year round in Farellones, and shoulder season can be very good value.
