What is La Reina Known For?

La Reina is a green, unhurried residential comuna on the eastern edge of Santiago, where the grid gives way to tree-lined avenues and the first slopes of the Andes. Parque Mahuida offers hiking and picnic ground within the city, while its plazas and neighborhood restaurants keep a relaxed, local pace.

Getting there

La Reina is reachable by bus or a taxi from the nearest Metro stations, since the line doesn't reach this far east, and a car makes Parque Mahuida far easier to combine with a wander through the comuna's plazas. It's a genuinely residential, unhurried part of the city, most visitors come specifically for the park rather than passing through. Weekday mornings are quietest for hiking Parque Mahuida.

Frequently Asked Questions

La Reina is a leafy residential comuna in the eastern foothills, quieter and more low-rise than its Las Condes neighbour. It is known for tree-lined streets, the Parque Mahuida on the edge of the Andes, and a settled family atmosphere that keeps it off most visitor itineraries.

Head up to Parque Mahuida for hiking trails, a canopy course and views back over the basin, or walk the paths of the Parque Padre Hurtado, one of the largest green spaces in the eastern city. Avenida Larrain carries the neighbourhood restaurants and the weekly feria.

La Reina sits east of Nunoa and south of Las Condes, and Metro Line 3 at Plaza Egana puts you on its western edge. Beyond that you will want a bus or a ride app, particularly for the foothill streets and Parque Mahuida, which climb well above the Metro line.

It suits longer stays rather than short visits. There are few hotels and the draw is residential calm, clean air and proximity to the foothills rather than sightseeing or nightlife. Visitors wanting the same green, quiet feel with better transport usually choose Providencia or Nunoa instead.
