Where Should You Stay in Pomaire?

Pomaire is a small village near Melipilla, southwest of Santiago, where families have worked the local clay, greda, for generations. Its streets are lined with pottery workshops and shops selling cooking pots, plates and the lucky three-legged pig, and with country restaurants serving pastel de choclo in clay bowls and empanadas the size of a dinner plate. Below are the hotels, apartments and hostels we recommend in Pomaire.

Frequently Asked Questions

We currently list 2 places to stay in Pomaire. Rates in the coast and countryside west of Santiago follow the season more than the star rating: they peak in January and February and over long weekends, and fall sharply in winter. Guesthouses and small boutique hotels are often better value than the big seafront chains, and many cabins and apartments are priced for groups.

No. Foreign visitors paying in US dollars or with a foreign card are exempt from the 19 percent IVA on accommodation anywhere in Chile, including Pomaire. Show your passport and the tourist card you were given on arrival at check-in, and ask for the exempt rate directly, because quoted prices sometimes include the tax.

You can, but it is a commute: one to two hours each way by bus or car, so days in the city get long. Staying in Pomaire makes sense when the town or the coast is the point of the trip, with Santiago as its own stay at the start or end.

Book well ahead for January and February, for New Year's Eve, when the coast fills for the fireworks, and for the long weekends around Easter and Fiestas Patrias in September. Outside those dates, and especially midweek, Pomaire has plenty of rooms and rates drop.
