The Santiago GuideThings to Do in El Colorado
Attractions, parks, and days out across El Colorado, in Mountains.
What Is There to Do in El Colorado?
El Colorado rises directly above Farellones and is the most accessible of the ski centers near Santiago, with runs for every level and quick lift access from the village. Its proximity to the city makes it a favorite for day trips on the snow when winter arrives. Below are the attractions and activities we recommend in El Colorado.
Frequently Asked Questions
We are still building out our attractions and activities coverage of El Colorado. Give it a full day at least. El Colorado is far enough from Santiago that a half day is mostly spent travelling, and the drive out through Mountains is part of the appeal rather than something to hurry through.
El Colorado lies outside the city, so the Metro does not reach it. Most people drive, book a transfer or join a tour, and the journey runs roughly forty five minutes to two hours each way depending on the route and on the traffic leaving town. Check road conditions before setting out in winter.
It is the simplest way, though not the only one. The places on this page are spread out rather than clustered on a few streets, so getting between them on foot is not realistic. Organised tours and booked drivers cover the main stops, and they are the sensible choice if tastings are involved.
Start early. The roads out of Santiago clog on weekend mornings and mountain weather can turn by mid afternoon, so most people leave the city by eight or nine and are back before dark. Winter shortens the useful day considerably and can close the higher roads altogether.
