Things to Do in Pirque
Attractions, parks, and days out across Pirque, in the wine valleys around Santiago.
What Is There to Do in Pirque?
Pirque is a rural comuna across the Maipo river from Puente Alto, where Santiago gives way to vineyards, horse farms and the foothills of the Andes. Concha y Toro's historic estate is here, along with Haras de Pirque and a string of smaller wineries, country restaurants and weekend cabins, and at the end of the valley lies Río Clarillo National Park. Below are the attractions and activities we recommend in Pirque.
Frequently Asked Questions
We currently list 12 attractions and activities in Pirque. Give it a full day at least. Pirque is far enough out of the city that a half day is mostly spent travelling, and the drive into the wine valleys around Santiago is part of the appeal rather than something to hurry through.
Pirque lies outside the city, so the Metro does not reach it. Most people drive, book a transfer or join a tour, and the journey runs from under an hour to around three hours each way depending on the route and on the traffic leaving town. A few places can only be visited on an organised tour. Check road conditions before setting out in winter.
Usually it is the simplest way, though not the only one. The places on this page are spread out rather than clustered on a few streets, so getting between them on foot is not realistic. Organised tours and booked drivers cover the main stops, and they are the sensible choice if tastings are involved or a site only admits guided groups.
Start early. The roads out of Santiago clog on weekend mornings and in the mountains the weather can turn by mid afternoon, so most people leave the city by eight or nine and are back before dark. Winter shortens the useful day considerably and can close the higher roads altogether.
