The mix reflects the neighbourhood: Luxury Santiago shapes what opens where, from picadas and market comedores in the older barrios to modern kitchens and wine bars in the newer ones. Santiago eats late. Lunch is the main meal, usually between 1pm and 3pm, and it is when most places run a good-value fixed menu. Dinner rarely gets going before 8pm and busy nights fill from 9pm. Many kitchens in La Reina close on Sunday evenings and some take Monday off entirely.
